New Service Offering for Existing & New Homes
Green Savers has expanded our service offerings for existing homes and has rolled out new services for new construction homes. To prepare for these offerings we’ve obtained new training and certifications. We’ve added BPI existing home energy audit certification to go along with our HERS certification. On the new homes side we’ve also added GWS LEED for Homes Rater certification to our Energy Star and LEED Accredited Professional certifications.
New Construction Offerings – Energy Star & LEED for Homes
Consumers and builders looking to certify their homes for energy efficiency can design and build their homes to be Energy Star certified. Energy Star new homes require third party verification by a HERS Rater, and Green Savers is recruiting builders to partner with to provide this service.
Energy Star homes are by definition at least 15% more energy efficient than typical code homes. They are also typically more durable, more comfortable, and more healthy homes to live in. Energy Star is one of the most recognizable brands with more than 68% of U.S. households recognizing ENERGY STAR as the national symbol for protecting the environment through energy efficiency.
Green Savers has also been tested, certified by, and signed onto an agreement with LEED Homes Provider GWS Inc., to serve as a LEED Homes Rater in our local area. Since Energy Star is a prerequisite for LEED Homes, Green Savers customers and builders will be able to get both services from one firm.
LEED for Homes is a rating system that promotes the design and construction of high-performance green homes. According to the US Green Building Council “A green home uses less energy, water and natural resources; creates less waste; and is healthier and more comfortable for the occupants. Benefits of a LEED home include lower energy and water bills; reduced greenhouse gas emissions; and less exposure to mold, mildew and other indoor toxins. The net cost of owning a LEED home is comparable to that of owning a conventional home.”
Existing Homes Expanded Service Offerings
In the past 10 months Green Savers has audited over 120 Homes in 3 states and the District of Columbia. We’re continually improving our processes and reports to add value to our customers. We’ve recently rolled out 2 new service offerings that can be purchased as stand-alone services, or combined with home energy audits at a deep discount.
After energy, water is the second most expensive utility for most home owners. Water shortages are occurring with increasing regularity and many of our customers want to learn how to protect themselves from increasing supply issues, and prices increases; and hot to do their part to protect this critical resource. We’ve recently rolled out an indoor water audit to help customers with the challenge.
Our indoor water audit includes: flow rate testing of all indoor faucets and showers, leakage testing for toilets, projections of water savings potential based on your current usage and the opportunities identified.
Most homes in our area are heated by some form of combustion appliance. These include natural gas, oil and propane furnaces and boilers. As circumstances change within your home affecting the internal pressure these appliances can back-draft into the home and cause health issues or even death.
Our combustion appliance safety testing follows BPI protocols to establish worst case draft conditions and test that your appliance continues to draft waste gases properly outdoors. We also test all gas lines to these appliances as well as gas stove and clothes dryers for leaks. Lastly, before, during and after the testing we check to ensure the levels of carbon monoxide in the home are within safe levels.
